70 UP is the concluding chapter of the landmark Up documentary series, which began in 1964 and has followed the lives of a group of British children at seven-year intervals for more than six decades. Originally conceived as a one-off film examining the British class system and the way it shaped people's lives, the series has become one of the most influential in television history.
Directed by Asif Kapadia, 70 UP marks the first film in the series since the death of its longtime director, Michael Apted, in 2021. Describing the opportunity as "an incredible honour and privilege," Kapadia has called UP his favourite documentary series and "the ultimate portrait of human life."
Returning to the participants at the age of seventy, 70 UP brings one of the most extraordinary documentary projects ever undertaken to its conclusion.
